Lantzville Lookout Loop, Lantzville, BC

About the Hike: This is a moderate hike with an elevation gain of 882 feet. I recommend using hiking poles on this route to provide support both ascending and descending along the trail. This intermediate, cardio-pounding 3.75-mile (6 km) route provides a great workout.

I was delighted to see all the orange maple leaves sprinkled across the pathway. The trail winds through towering pines and maple trees, changing colors and shedding leaves as Autumn claims her spot in the four yearly seasons.

We continued hiking for a short while until we came upon a wooden swing at the end of the route. This is where we took a hard right and started our ascent up to the lookout point.

We climbed and climbed up the trail.

Halfway up the hill, I saw the white-barked trees and knew I was in for a treat. The forest and Mother Nature never disappoint. The splash of yellow awaiting us was worth being a little out of breath for a few minutes.

I couldn't help but notice the assortment of mushrooms growing in the shady underbrush as I meandered down the trail.

The trail slowly transitioned into a rocky pathway upward to the ridge, which provided our first glimpse of the views and a perfect spot for a quick snack and drink before continuing our hike.

We strolled along the ridge, admiring the peak-a-boo views. The trees faded away several minutes later, and spectacular views of Nanoose Bay were right before us.

The 882-foot climb was worth the views and tranquility we found sitting among the boulders with the sun on our backs.

It was time again to trek our way down the trail towards home. We did a small loop at the top and then rambled back down the same path we took up. It was worth the trip to catch those amazing views of Nanoose Bay.
